What was the journey that lead you to launch OMVC?

I was a founder and helped build five companies over 20 years. It was a passion, a grind, but I loved every moment of it. I want to bring all of that experience to help others across the entire venture ecosystem – from founders to management teams, other venture investors, angels and institutions. Before becoming a founder and now a VC,  I worked as a political consultant.

What did you love most about being a founder?

The best part is finding people that are incredibly talented with unique personalities and putting them together and watching magic happen. Or fireworks. Both can lead to high functioning teams and businesses.

What causes or issues are you most passionate about?

I love the ocean. I believe supporting a clean and sustainable world simply leads to good karma. No data is needed for this.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

Endless summer surf trips with my friends. Living in Hawaii gives me access to amazing waves and I follow this passion around the world.

What's your mantra? / What’s your favorite quote?

“Be right with yourself and others and  the world will be right with you.”

That’s the original, as far as I know. I try to remember this often. But, if you want a quote from a notable person, then anything from Hunter S. Thompson.

What was the journey that lead you to launch OMVC?

I started my career in healthtech, having led strategy and growth at Kinnser Software, a two-time Inc-500 company. During Obama’s presidency, I co-authored the crowdfund-investing framework used in the JOBS Act, which brought substantial changes to U.S. securities law and allowed over 7,500 companies to raise over US$2.5 billion since its enactment in 2012.

Following the JOBS Act, I worked in 45 countries over 7 years on initiatives to modernize fintech policy and regulation with clients including the World Bank, U.S. State Department, the Inter-American Bank and Saudi Monetary Authority.

What are your primary responsibilities at OMVC?

A large part of my job is to meet with exciting companies and make investment decisions based on exit opportunities, potential return on investments (ROI) and alignment with our funds’ investment theses.

I also actively support our portfolio companies, providing operational and strategic guidance, assisting with follow-on funding rounds and, in some cases, stepping in during challenging times to provide crisis management or restructuring support. The goal is to increase each company’s potential for growth, scaling and, ultimately, a profitable exit.

What is a creative project are you most proud of?

A close friend of mine and I produced a documentary film about an underdog sports team in Thailand that became global champions. The film was selected by 9 film festivals in 7 countries and won 3 awards.

What’s your idea of the perfect day off?

Hosting a group of friends and family for a BBQ lunch that turns into a happy hour and then continues on through a leisurely dinner.  Lots of great conversation, learning and laughter.

What did you do before joining OMVC?

Before joining OMVC, I was finishing my Master’s in Engineering Management from Dartmouth College while gaining experience building fintech products at Fidelity Labs. I also graduated from Dartmouth with a Bachelor of Engineering and from Bowdoin College with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics and a minor in Economics.

What are your primary responsibilities at OMVC?

My responsibilities include deal sourcing, investment due diligence, portfolio company support, market research, and financial analysis. I am also leading multiple internal tech projects.

What's your mantra?

Normal is boring!

Do you have a hidden talent or hobby that most people don’t know about?

I started playing the violin when I was 6 years old. When I was in 4th grade, I went to a music school and learned how to play the viola. For my entire childhood, my music allowed me to travel the world and collaborate with amazing people.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Isaac Newton. As an engineering and physics major, I have always been impressed by Newton’s ability to explain physical phenomena with simple equations. His discoveries serve as the basis of modern maths and science. I wonder what he would think of if he was born today.

What did you do before joining OMVC?

I was born and raised in Barcelona, where I completed a bachelor degree from ESADE Business School.

Before moving to Hong Kong in 2021, I had a stint at Encomenda Capital Partners — an early-stage Spanish VC which invests across Spain, Portugal, UK and LATAM.

What are your primary responsibilities at OMVC?

One of the main reasons for me to move to Asia was to connect and work with the region’s most brilliant entrepreneurs. Now based in Singapore, I get the opportunity to do so by leading our investment efforts across SEA and through providing support to our APAC portfolios.

What are you most passionate about?

Visiting new countries and learning about their history, culture, politics, gastronomy, etc.I have an agreement with myself to do some research prior to the start of each trip so I can have more informed conversations with locals. It makes for a more special experience!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The only person you should compare yourself to is you in the past.

What’s your favorite thing about your hometown?

The architecture, the culture, the food... I can’t pick just one. I’m a big Barça fan, so I’d have to include that too!

What did you do before joining OMVC?

I published extensively across newspapers, magazines, websites and newswires as a financial journalist for 8 years before moving into corporate events and marketing. During my journalistic career, I covered China’s economic boom and the accompanying financing activities as seen in the exuberant IPO, equity and bond markets, which offered me refreshing perspectives on how the global supply chain of almost all sectors were organized. Afterwards, I joined the world’s largest expert network as an event content producer. My last job before OMVC was to produce marketing collaterals for MSCI Inc., one of the world’s largest investment index providers.

What are your primary responsibilities at OMVC?

I led communications and branding initiatives at OMVC. That means orchestrating holistic campaigns across organic and paid marketing channels, crafting messaging frameworks for our key offerings, creating thought-leadership contents, setting newsletter agendas, managing media relations, supporting live and virtual event productions and releasing critical information to our limited partners.

What's your mantra?

Laziness kills ambition;

Anger kills wisdom;

Fear kills dreams;

Ego kills growth;

Jealousy kills peace;

Doubts kills confidence.

Now read the above right to left.

If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Friedrich Nietzsche. His unique perspective has inspired me to rethink life, morality and the human condition in general. I am expecting having dinner with him to be having a deep, meaningful conversation with a wise friend. I am also curious to learn how he sees our tech-driven society.

What’s your favorite thing about your hometown?

I was born and raised in Hong Kong. Having lived in the US, studied in the UK and travelled to some 30 countries, I would say that the highly efficient and affordable public transportation in Hong Kong is one of the most incredible things that shouldn’t be taken for granted. I also love the tailors in Hong Kong for their impeccable quality and affordable services.
